چکیده

DAISY is a generic pattern matching system [Weeks et al, 1999] which was initially developed at the Natural History Museum in London (BM(NH) under the aegis of BBSRC and UK Government Darwin Initiative funding. The primary rationale for developing this system was to overcome a taxonomic impediment, and to provide a system which would allow non specialists to identify organisms within speciose arthropod genera using a combination of both morphology and molecular data. The DAISY system has been exhaustively tested on a significant number of morphological and moelcular datasets including:

DAISY: A new software tool to test global identifiability of biological and physiological systems

A priori global identifiability is a structural property of biological and physiological models. It is considered a prerequisite for well-posed estimation, since it concerns the possibility of recovering uniquely the unknown model parameters from measured input-output data, under ideal conditions (noise-free observations and error-free model structure). Of course, determining if the parameters ...

Identification of selected monogeneans using image processing, artificial neural network and K-nearest neighbor

Abstract Over the last two decades, improvements in developing computational tools made significant contributions to the classification of biological specimens` images to their correspondence species. These days, identification of biological species is much easier for taxonomist and even non-taxonomists due to the development of automated computer techniques and systems.  In this study, we d...

Detecting horizontal gene transfer by mapping sequencing reads across species boundaries

MOTIVATION Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is a fundamental mechanism that enables organisms such as bacteria to directly transfer genetic material between distant species. This way, bacteria can acquire new traits such as antibiotic resistance or pathogenic toxins. Current bioinformatics approaches focus on the detection of past HGT events by exploring phylogenetic trees or genome composition i...

Daisy Visualization for Graphs

Since graphs are ubiquitous representations of data that are used in many applications, creating graph layouts is an important problem. These graph layouts are usefully discussed in terms of aesthetics that originated from mathematical concepts. In contrast, we explore the use of alternative aesthetics to inspire the visualization of graphs. We present Daisy Visualization, for which we have des...

Exploiting the Daisy Format for Automated, Single-Source Braille Publishing

This paper presents the background and status of the projects and discusses opportunities and challenges of the AutoBraille/NorBraille approach of using Daisy talking books as the foundation for creating well-formatted, multi-volume Braille books ready for embossing. Whereas the current R&D projects are limited to relatively simple document structures, preliminary research suggests that it will...
